Express Entry is an online system that is used to manage applications for permanent residence from skilled workers eligible under the Economic Class who can establish themselves economically in Canada.
If you want to come to Canada as a skilled immigrant, your first step is to submit your profile to the Express Entry pool. It is completely electronic process with online submissions involving the federal government, provincial governments, and Canadian employers which allows for quicker processing times, averaging around 6 months.
If you’re eligible, Express Entry system will (1) place you in a pool with other candidates; (2) give you a score and rank using Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) based on skills, education, language level, work experience, provincial nomination, other factors), (3) invite you to apply to be a permanent resident of Canada (if you’re one of the top candidates)
Express Entry covers Canada’s key economic immigration programs:
· Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) stream is designed for candidates who are fluent in English have a post secondary degree and qualified work experience in a profession of a min of 1 year within the last 10 years
· Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is created for candidates who have at least 1 year of Canadian work experience in a profession or trade in the last 3 years before applying.
· Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) is designed for candidates who have a job offer (with LMIA) or a Certificate of Qualification issued by Canadian provincial or federal authority, 2 years of work experience in a trade in the last 3 years, moderate fluency in English.
Invitation to Apply (ITA) – in order to be chosen from the pool and invited to apply, you need to have one of the highest-ranking scores to receive the invitations. If you are invited, you can apply for permanent residence.
Final Criteria before getting Permanent Residence: Once selected from the Express entry Pool and awarded with an Invitation to Apply (ITA), candidates and their dependants must also undergo medical examinations and obtain security clearances as part of the Canadian immigration application process.
